To begin with, we arrived on a Saturday a few minutes before 6:00. We saw they had a wide variety of cocktails and a slightly smaller selection of food. Most of it claims to be Mexican, but it doesn't really taste spectacular. We waited about 10 minutes before anyone came to take our order, even though there were only 3 tables occupied inside and about 3 more outside. I assumed they were slow because there was only 1 waitress, 1 bartender, and 1 cook, but to be honest, the food took 30 minutes to arrive, and I'm not kidding. We started eating at 6:40 and finished at 6:50 because the portions were so small. For the price, one might expect the food to be delicious, well-served, or to have a good experience. It was disappointing that they charge almost $20 plus tax for 3 mini tacos, or the same for a tiny pan with melted cheese. And as for the flavor, they don't even offer a lime, salsa, or salt for the tacos, which was a real shame. The melted cheese tasted like it came from a supermarket. No one ever came to ask if everything was okay with the food or if we needed anything. I can't say much about the drinks since we ordered non-alcoholic ones, and they arrived quickly after we ordered them. But if I can say one thing, it's that this place is good if you want to go drinking with friends, but the food, as Mexican as it sounds, is definitely not worth it.
Gem of a place!! Food and cocktails are incredible and the location is on a quiet strip of Parc Ave. In Mile End. Absolutely loved it, the service was amazing and so friendly. Thank you for such a lovely evening!
Disappointing. I had such high hopes after discovering another Mexican restaurant in Montreal. I don't usually criticize restaurants, and we eat in a lot of different places all over the world, but I was not impressed at all. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation so we could take advantage of the Tuesday cocktail special. It was very close to the 7pm cut off but we ordered before. The cocktail menu is extensive with a wide variety of drinks. Make sure, if you partake, you order one. At $15 they are a bit costly but they are very good. Tonight, we were 4 so we were able to order different tapas options. We ordered a Tropical Ceviche, a Mole Enchilada, Steak and Chimichurri Tacos, a Taco Birrias and Rice Croquetas. We tried to order the Patatas Bravas but they were unavailable. Someone forgot to buy potatoes? The presentation of all the dishes was very creative and appetizing. The Ceviche was made with a freshly marinated white fish and served with chopped mango, herbs and a small bowl of homemade chips so the sauce could be easily scooped up and enjoyed. Delicious! The Mole Enchiladas, there were 2 on the plate, was swimming in a thick mole sauce that was amazing. The crispy outer enchilada was stuffed with shredded chicken. Good thing there was an ample amount of mole because the chicken was a bit dry. The croquetas, I didn't get to taste but they were gobbled up so quickly that they must have been tasty. The tacos de birria were ok. The double layer of taco was filled with cheese, and covered in over cooked braised beef. Good thing there was birria, the small bowl of soup that it comes with, because again, it was dry. And now for the steak tacos...3 small tacos were presented, loaded with steak, a bit chewy, avocado, tomato and the chimichurri sauce. Very tasty and more filling then one would think. Ask for the horchata, a delicious and refreshing cinnamony drink. A Mexican staple. A three chocolate chocolate mouse was order for dessert. Perfectly chocolatey. So now I explain why my rating is only a 3 for service. When serving tapas, the other couple got 2 out of 3 dishes, we got 1 of 3, after we waited a good 30 minutes. So I sat there waiting for my dish that only came when everyone else had already finished their food. Not cool. The waitress kept coming by and looking at the table but never said 'its on its way' or 'it won't be long'. She seemed to ignore the fact that I was not eating. Not cool. To top it off, when presented the bill, we were overcharged for our drinks. When I pointed it out to her she said the order was placed too late for the special. Yet the couple we were with got it. Strange. Huh. Today, with prices being so high and most consumers trying to tighten their belt buckles, there were only 3 tables occupied, one would think that restaurants would try and make the service better. Not here. I could have pushed the fact that I was over charged and insisted on speaking to management, but I decided not to embarrass the couple we were with. So I'm venting here, to let the world know that small establishments such as this will pull stunts too. Will I go back? Nope. Not because the food was bad, but because they don't seem to care about their customers satisfaction.
Nice ambiance. The food was good but they should mention when its spicy. The cocktails were good. The only down part that we experienced when we went on saturday is when we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu and we said no, we got ignored for almost 10 minutes
My absolute favourite dish I ordered was the tortilla soup. It was super delicious, great textures from the crunch of the tortillas and creamy from the avocados. And just enough spiciness from the broth. The tacos were good but I was on such a high from the soup, the others didn’t hit as I expected. But overall great place. Would go back especially for the soup.
