Wasnt a big fan but no fault of the restaurant. Sardines wasn't what I expected. The was decent not over the top spectacular, no real complaints. Just wasn't my thing but I gave them a try. Always good to try something new.

This Restaurant is phenomenal. I'm here for work, and my co-worker and I arrived without reservations. Alex, the waiter was able to seat us regardless of how busy they were for the evening. We started with some of the Cod Croquettes and an order of the Chorizo. Both were great! The Chorizo was the perfect cook, and level of spice. For our mains, we both got the fish of the day. I had red snapper, and it was amazing. Cooked perfectly, and the sides of vegies and potatoes were great. My co worker had a different fish, and it's name escapes me, but his was a whole fish grill, and it was a great level of light and flaky. Will definitely be going back before I leave, and thank you Alex for such a great effort in waiting on us. Truly appreciated it.

Porto Mar is a true Old Montreal classic — an upscale yet cozy Portuguese seafood restaurant that has been around for over 20 years, and it still delivers the same quality and authenticity it’s known for. It’s the perfect spot for family dinners, after‑work meals, or bringing someone you want to impress. The atmosphere is warm and elegant, and the menu is a seafood lover’s dream. They offer a vast selection of fresh options, including several catch‑of‑the‑day dishes that highlight just how high‑quality their ingredients are. The food has that refined, comforting feel that makes you instantly understand why this place has lasted so long. The fish and seafood rice was exactly as I remembered it from years ago — rich, flavorful, and reminiscent of true homemade Portuguese cooking. Others at the table ordered the sardines, which were big, bold, and full of flavor, exactly the way proper Portuguese sardines should be. We chose the table d’hôte, which is absolutely worth it. For just a little more, you get an appetizer and dessert. The chorizo and cod croquettes were delicious, and the desserts were a perfect finish. The lemon mousse surprised everyone — even someone who normally avoids lemon loved it — and the chocolate mousse was rich and satisfying. They also offer a signature cocktail menu, adding a classy touch to the whole experience. Overall, Porto Mar is a hidden gem in the Old Port that continues to impress after all these years. Authentic cuisine, fresh seafood, warm service, and a timeless atmosphere. I would 100% come back. We had an amazing experience at Porto Mar. The the fish and rice dish felt like real home cooking and sardines were super flavorful (in the best, authentic way). We had a starter of chorizo was also a standout. The table d’hôte is definitely worth it. For just a few dollars more you get a starter, a generous main meal, and dessert. We tried the chocolate mousse and frozen lemon dessert (highly recommended). It was the perfect finish! For a spot in Old Montreal, the prices are very fair, portions are big, and the atmosphere is relaxed—great for a date night or just a nice meal out. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, making it a great spot for a date night, tourists exploring Old Montreal, or really anyone who loves Portuguese food, whether it’s seafood or meat. The service was fantastic, and we even had the chance to meet the owners, who were some of the kindest and most welcoming people you could hope to meet. We highly recommend this place! It's a gem.

Went here last night in the Old Port and had such a great experience at Porto Mar. You need to check them out ASAP! Our server Alex was super chill and attentive, and one of the owners, Melanie, came by and was incredibly kind. We even got the chance to speak with the chef, which made the whole experience feel really personal. Food-wise, everything was fresh and full of flavor. The spicy shrimp were a standout so delicious, I’d go back just for those. I had the turbot (yes, it’s a real fish 😂) and it was cooked perfectly. The potatoes on the side were also amazing. We also had a seafood medley with rice (loaded with clams, mussels, shrimp, salmon, cod basically everything) and it was super saucy and satisfying. Drinks were on point too loved my old fashioned. To finish, we had a porto-braised pear with ice cream and it was honestly the perfect dessert. Beautiful location, especially if you can grab a window seat. Definitely a spot we’ll be going back to.
