Description
Discover the amazing history of Montreal awaiting you in our 19th century patrimonial building built in 1879 at the heart of Griffintown. In 1879, the building belonged to Caledonian Iron Works company that produced parts for ship engines and trains.
Today, the building is best described as a time machine that will take you on a journey from a variety of modern art created by our resident artists to the permanent collection of European and International 19th century paintings and our magnificent collection of 19th and 20th-century Works on Paper by Picasso, Monet, Rembrandt and more.
On your tour, you will also notice 140-year-old safes, Douglas fir wood structural elements, antique furniture, and displays, including the historical wax statues from the former Grévin Museum.
So, take this opportunity to immerse yourself in the historic and unique environment of the Montreal Art Center and Museum, meet some of our 50 local resident artists, and support them by purchasing the artwork that speaks to you the most!
