We went for brunch, although apparently we decided brunch needed a little rebellion: French onion soup, because why not? Followed by a classic croque monsieur and a salmon croissant. The bakery side definitely shows. The bread and croissants were exceptionally well made, fresh, and exactly what you’d hope for from a French restaurant that also happens to bake its own goods. 🇫🇷🥐 We also really enjoyed the terrasse. On a beautiful day, it’s relaxed, comfortable. And it’s pet-friendly, which meant we got to meet a whole collection of very good doggos. 🐶❤️ The atmosphere is very down-to-earth for a place with such a prestigious reputation. The service was equally fitting for the setting. Attentive, polished, and professional. Overall, the quality is fantastic, the portions are filling, and we absolutely understand the reputation. Worth it? We think so. But, this is one we’d probably save for a special occasion rather than an everyday brunch.
I recently visited Duc de Lorraine, a classic French-style patisserie and bakery in Montreal, and overall it was a great experience. The prices are definitely on the higher or expensive side, especially for pastries and menu items, but the quality of the food helps justify it to a certain extent. Everything I tried was fresh, well-prepared, and clearly made with attention to detail. The taste really stands out, especially the pastries, which feel authentic and high-quality in a traditional French bakery style rather than Québécois comfort food. Some of their best sellers really show why the place is so popular—things like their buttery croissants, éclairs, macarons, mille-feuille, and a variety of beautifully crafted cakes and pastries all stand out. What really makes this place special, though, is the vibe. It has an elegant, classic European café feel that makes the whole experience enjoyable and memorable. The atmosphere alone adds a lot to the visit. Even though the prices are steep, the combination of authentic French bakery flavors, well-known signature pastries, and the overall ambiance easily makes it feel like a five-star bakery experience overall.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an excellent experience at Duc de Lorraine. The food was outstanding from start to finish. I had the steak and fries, which were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. The desserts were beautiful, creative, and tasted as good as they looked. A special thank you to Sajjad for his friendly, attentive, and professional service. He made us feel very welcome and ensured everything was perfect throughout our visit. The dessert presentation, complete with singing from the staff, added a fun and memorable touch to the experience. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Montreal! Thank you, Sajjad, and the entire team for a fantastic dining experience.
Visited Duc de Lorraine and had a very nice experience! The outdoor terrace is definitely better than the indoor seating, especially with the beautiful direct view of Saint Joseph’s Oratory. The place is very clean, and the waiters are elegant, welcoming, and always greeting guests with a smile. The desserts and croissants looked absolutely delicious . we tried the Paris brest dessert and the crème brûlée, both were excellent. A bit on the expensive side, but overall a lovely experience and worth visiting for the atmosphere, pastries, and view.
Very nice restaurant with cozy atmosphere and excellent choice of pastries. We went here for brunch and I had a chance to try their brunch menu, peach mimosa and multiple trompe l'œil. I had buyourdi which was delicious and I tried my friend's avocado toast which I found to be burnt. I also found that brunch potatoes packed seasoning. The bowl of fruit though was perfect. The mimosas were good, but I didn't taste much peach in it. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it. The best part for me was the desert which in my case was the mango trompe l'œil. It was absolutely delicious and I am looking forward to coming back to have it again! I also tried the pear and lemon trompe l'œil and both were great. As for the service, I found that it was good but not very attentive. Once we got our food, there was not much follow up, even if we wanted to order more. Overall, I liked the restaurant but I do think it's overpriced for the food and service that you get.
