We had a wonderful lunch at Hoogan et Beaufort. The service was truly worthy of its Michelin one-star status—our server was warm and attentive without being overbearing. My wife and I ordered the focaccia, tuna tartare, duck, monkfish, a peach and chamomile dessert, and a chocolate dessert. * Focaccia: Served warm with a lovely wood-fired aroma that lives up to their signature open-fire cooking. It was cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. * Tuna Tartare: Incredibly fresh tuna balanced beautifully with the sweet peaches and crunchy nuts mixed inside. * Duck Dish: Duck can easily feel heavy, but the sauce, garnishes, and especially the cherries provided a brilliant balance. Pairing it with a local Quebec Pinot Noir was a match made in heaven. * Monkfish Dish: Served in a delicate white sauce, it was lighter than the duck and complemented the meal wonderfully. The seaweed garnish was the absolute highlight of the dish. * Desserts: The peach & chamomile dessert was light and refreshing without being overly sweet. My personal favorite was the chocolate dessert—the crunch, deep coffee flavor, and rich chocolate sweetness brought our meal to a flawless end.
★★★★★ My partner and I had the privilege of celebrating his 40th birthday at Hoogan et Beaufort, and I can honestly say it was one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had. We chose the tasting menu, and every single course was extraordinary. The warm oysters and mussels were, without question, the best I’ve ever had in my life. From there, each dish somehow continued to surpass the last. Every plate was beautifully presented, thoughtfully composed, and bursting with flavors that were both refined and unforgettable. I’ve dined at many fine restaurants, but I’ve truly never experienced anything quite like this. What elevated the evening beyond the exceptional food was the people. Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. You can genuinely feel how passionate they are about their craft, and that passion shines through in every detail—from the service to the storytelling behind each course. As a special surprise for my partner’s birthday, the team graciously gave us a tour of the kitchen and their wine cellar. It was such a thoughtful gesture that made an already incredible evening feel even more personal and unforgettable. Thank you to the entire Hoogan et Beaufort team for creating an experience we’ll remember for years to come. If you’re looking for one of the finest culinary experiences in Montreal, this is it. We cannot wait to return.
We enjoyed our visit at HB. The food was good to great, with some star dishes such as the handmade pasta, veal and (original) rhubarb dessert. The list of wine is impressive although we didn’t consume any this time. Note that the braise cocktail felt too diluted in my opinion. The dynamic vibe distinguishes HB from Mastard and Sabayon. The service was provided by a mix of experienced and less experienced staff with different personalities, but it was great and we love the diversity.
Food: 4,5/5. We had the tasting menu. Everything is excellent, from the starters to the deserts. Minus point is the steak with the beef being not very tender, juicy and sweet. Service: the waiters were very attentive, careful and knowledgeable. In short, the meal is worth the value and We loved the it.
Excellent service from our server. The place is nice but nothing unique or special about the decor or pleasant music. Enjoyed the amuse-bouche. Warm oysters was a first for me but it was pretty good. Trout appetizer was perfect. Halibut was a little basic for a main. I did not enjoy the gingerbread, the whole thing tasted like a Christmas cake, not gingerbread. The housetini is basically an espresso martini with some orange. I'm surprised they didn't have/offer a proper cocktail menu. Wine pairings were good and reasonably priced.
