Came for the Saturday night Belly Dancer. She is amazing!!!! So cool to have a delicious tajine followed by a stunning performance :-)
Went here and got the soup, chicken tajine, couscous, mint lemonade, and mint tea. Everything was amazing, especially the soup (I could have had five bowls of just that). The staff was also super friendly. 10/10 recommend.
Stepping in from the frozen streets of Montreal felt like crossing a border into warmth. Menthe and Couscous is small and intimate, its walls dressed in colours and textures that wrap around you the moment you enter. It has that quiet magic of places that know exactly who they are. Before we even ordered, the room itself did half the work of transporting us. We began with Chrobetna soup, the kind that settles in your chest and warms you from the inside out. My lamb couscous came with a generous shank, tender and comforting, though the flavours stayed in the realm of familiar rather than surprising. My partner’s merguez tajine, however, was the dish that stood out. The merguez was homemade, and the owner proudly mentioned it, and you could taste that care in every bite. Bold, fragrant, and perfectly cooked, it easily became the star of our meal. The atmosphere stayed soft and feutré, the kind that gently quiets the outside world. And then everything shifted. The baladi dancer stepped out, the music rose just enough to draw you in, and the owners encouraged us to stand and join in. It turned the evening into something joyful and unforgettable. Whatever the food may lack in surprise, the ambiance more than makes up for it. It is an experience you feel, not just taste.
I visited Menthe et Couscous on a Sunday night with a reservation. The ambiance was calm, only two other tables, and the décor and music created a very pleasant Moroccan atmosphere. Service was polite and smooth, and I appreciated the traditional touch throughout the restaurant. I ordered the lamb shank tajine with couscous, and my guest had the couscous royal. The flavors were warm and well-spiced, and the tajine broth itself was delicious. We also tried a kunafa and two traditional teas, both very good in taste, although the kunafa portion was quite small. As someone who works in the culinary field, I did notice that the lamb shank tasted frozen and slightly old, even though the sauce and spices helped mask it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t eat more than a few pieces. At a total of about $180 for two people, I expected higher-quality ingredients, especially for the main dishes. I’ve also realized they offer a dance show on Fridays and Saturdays, which might create a fuller experience compared to the quieter weekday nights. Overall, it’s a peaceful spot for traditional Moroccan food, good service, and a relaxing non-weekend dinner. However, considering the price and the quality of the lamb, I’m not sure I would return after trying their two main dishes. I do hope they review their suppliers, because the food has potential, the flavors are there
This was my first time trying a Moroccan restaurant, and I truly believe the cuisine in general is delicious and fully halal. The service was kind, and a few items really stood out the merguez was excellent, the kunafe was amazing, and the special Moroccan tea was incredible. However, the lamb shank didn’t meet expectations, especially considering the total bill was around $180 for two people. The quality of the lamb felt lower than expected; it tasted like it had been frozen, and even though they tried hard with the marinade, the frozen taste was still noticeable. I think changing the supplier would make a big difference. Overall, some dishes were good, but the main dish needs improvement to match the price point.
